Fantasy Football Update: Matchday 2

Fantasy_footballIt's all change at the top of The Bratwurst League. Felix Winstone's alllright have been propelled to the top of the table from sixth place on the back of a Peter Crouch scissor kick. Felix also benefited from the 20 points picked up by skipper Juninho. Former leaders McIntyre Utd swapped places with alllright, and are in sixth place after scoring a disappointing 27 points.

The league's biggest climbers were Elton Woo's OTTV who jumped from 11th to second with an impressive haul of 62 points - 22 of which were bagged by Ruud van Nistelrooy.

We also have a new record low score. We thought Bratwurst XI's 24 points from Matchday 1 would take some beating (they managed double that this week by the way!), but Gavin Campbell's macca have topped that with just 23 points this week. Naughty Zlatan Ibrahimovic must take the blame after his red card.

Fantasy Football Update: Matchday 1

Fantasy_footballThe Bratwurst League is up and running following this week's Champions League action. Bratwurst's very own Bratwurst XI have decided that lulling the rest of you into a false sense of security is the best tactical approach. Let down by Lukas Podolski's inability to find the net during Bayern Munich's 4-0 victory and Frank Lampard's greediness by shooting instead of squaring for Andriy Shevchenko, the Bratwurst XI are currently lying languishing bottom of the league with just 24 points.

Fantasy Football Update: Matchday 1 continued

At the other end of the table, Ross McIntyre's McIntyre Utd are the early leaders. The secret to Ross's good start? Money well spent on his FC Unicef connection of Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o, who between them bagged as many points as Bratwurst XI! The rest of us can take some comfort in the fact that Ross's subs list reads like an exotic Sunday League team!

Robert Williams's Dyanmo George Vader, Mandeep Bansal's ARCEALONA and Mohamed Shifau's Horizon FC are all hot on the heels of Ross, but the rest of us didn't even reach the average score for Matchday 1 of 53 points. Hang your heads in shame!

Bratwurst's Fantasy World Cup team unleashed!

Thierryhenryfrance1 Bratwurst has at last entered a fantasy team, in Metro's free World Cup fantasy competition (it was the 'free' part that appealed to us – not to mention the £10,000 first prize).

Here's how Bratwurst's Boys line up, in an attacking 3-4-3 formation:

GK: Paul Robinson (England)
DEF: Juan-Pablo Sorin (Argentina), Willy Sagnol (France),  Rio Ferdinand (England)
MF: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany), Miroslaw Symkowiak (Poland), Johann Vogel (Switzerland)
CF: Thierry Henry (France, capt.), Lukas Podolski (Germany), Maciej Zurawski (Poland)
Sub: Phillipe Senderos (Switzerland)

Guaranteed no one else will have that XI. I'm banking on Switzerland, Poland and France to have a good tournament. No Brazilians and just one Argentine. Will probably backfire, but, hey, it's only a game…

Make money on the World Cup Stock Exchange

Picture_1_109 OK, it's virtual money, but good fun nonetheless. The BBC already has an online, celebrity-based Stock Exchange (Celebdaq) and a sports-based Stock Exchange (Sportdaq) and now, logically enough, it's come up with a World Cup Daq. The concept is simple: you buy virtual shares in World Cup teams (they give you £10,000 when you sign up) and the price of those shares goes up or down based on how much press coverage that team receives. At the end of the tournament, the traders who've made the most profit will be entered into a draw to win real prizes. Makes a refreshing change from the usual fantasy football games.

Official FIFA Fantasy Football

I'd never endorse McDonald's and think it's a bit rich that they're an official sponsor (or is it 'partner' these days?) of a sporting event, but, hey, you haven't come here to gather around a soapbox; you've come here to pick a fantasy team that will kick ass in Germany. Anyway, McD's are sponsoring FIFA's official fantasy competition. You can register for it here. Good luck…
