Italy to be excluded from Euro 2008?
Fifa said Italy may well be thrown out of the qualifying campaign for Euro 2008 if Juventus continue to battle against their relegation to Serie B for match-fixing. Juve were relegated and docked 17 points for trying to exert influence over referees and are now trying to take their appeal to a civil court.
However, this would be against Fifa's rules and could lead to the Italian Football Federation being suspended. That could mean clubs and the national team being excluded from competitions. Juve were relegated for match-fixing that rocked the footballing world, and were initially docked 30 points, which was reduced to 17 on appeal. Lazio, Fiorentina, AC Milan, and recently Reggina, have been punished and all will start next season with point deductions.
